GOODBYE 2 year Hiatus!!! I am back!!! Miss Me???

Hey viewers! I have seen a tremendous amount of views but am saddened that I have neglected this blog for years!!!! Life has been quite a ride, moving back home to Upstate, NY then struggling to find a job and then finding the job and working constantly.  Between work and a social life my art got the backseat.   Well guys I am back!!! New name (Michelle instead of Shelly) and a new tweak on my style. Oh! and get this one I started a new book!!!!!


About three months ago I read an article about people dressing and acting like a mermaid, swimming in the water and wearing tails!   Since I am a huge "Little Mermaid" fan I decided to put pen to paper on some kind of "mermaid" book.  Well no luck on a story but then BAM! A co-worker sends me this video of a cat swimming! All of a sudden the world made sense and an hour later a story was in production!  I will save the details of the story but will say this....a Mermaid girl wants a pet, turns a kitty into a mer-kitty!!!

So as of now I am going to attempt self publishing E-Books.  I love the idea of holding a hard copy of a book but have to keep with the times and keep with the market.  So long story short, here are a few finished colored pages in somewhat of a sequential order.  Sorry about the watermarks but it's for my own protection. ENJOY!

Did I forget to mention I Graduated???

In the crazy post graduation mess of moving to BedStuy, sorting through massive amounts of artwork, and job hunting I may have forgotten to elaborate on how AMAZING it is that I finally after 4 LONG and brutal (but amazing) years have graduated with my BFA from Pratt!!!  I can't believe how much I've learned from that place.  But now it is over and the job search continues.  But here is a picture of my diploma, my most prized possession other than a 22 year old baby bear.  This diploma signifies 4 years of hard work, dedication, blood(lot's of pain), sweat and tears.

So Pratt Show was this week! I am so thankful for all the people that came out to see it, friends, family, professors and new faces.  It was great meeting everyone and I thank you for coming out to see the show!  Here are some photographs of my 2 panels.

PRATT SHOW!

I got into the Pratt Show! Such an honor and such a great opportunity for me!  I've worked so hard for this and it is Finally paying off.  Today was the Opening to the show and well it went great!  I got to meet some  cool people that really gave me nothing but amazing feedback.  I loved that the MOST USED word from people was "CUTE!"  That really made me happy because my work is ridiculously cute.

Bleed for your Art!

So about a week ago I finished putting together the final draft of my book.  TOTALLY OPEN TO CHANGE BY THE WAY! haha had to add that. JUST because I fully color and print a really nice looking book does NOT mean I am not open to changing it.  I just want it to look really well presented.

So anyways my last 3 inches of cutting on the bookcover were left finally after hours of cutting.  Of coarse I slice a nice inch long gash down my thumb.  After it FINALLY stopped bleeding I finished the book.

I guess you have to bleed for your art.  I need to buy a thimble.
